adidas celebrates indigenous players
Round 8 of the 2012 AFL season has officially been dubbed Indigenous Round and aims to acknowledge and celebrate indigenous players of the game.
In the lead up to the Round, indigenous adidas athletes came together across the country to speak with media about the upcoming round and the importance of acknowledging indigenous players of the game, and their culture.
“Indigenous Round to me celebrates the widespread range of Indigenous players that have made the game (AFL) what it is today & also enables us as players to celebrate the opportunities we've all been given (to play AFL)” Eddie Betts- Carlton Football Club
“Indigenous round to me is the AFL acknowledging indigenous players, indigenous people of Australia and our culture” Cyril Rioli – Hawthorn Football Club
To help mark the occasion, adidas designed each indigenous player a special pair of boots. Utilising miadidas, the boot designs took inspiration from the Aboriginal flag and feature the traditional aboriginal colours, as well as both the players name and jersey number.
