Name the 2014 FIFA World Cup ball
The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ is sure to be one of the greatest football events of all time and the world’s best players and teams will head to the country where idea of the beautiful football was first born. For the first time in 64 years, football’s biggest event returns to Brazil, with its colourful carnival atmosphere forming the ideal backdrop to the competition.
We have supplied the Official Match Ball to all World Cup matches since 1970 and it has always been an iconic ingredient of the finals. For over 40 years we have continually looked to set new standards in innovation with highly iconic designs and panel-technology.
As a result of our thirst for innovation, we have announced the launch of a new Global competition to name the Official Match Ball for the FIFA World Cup in 2014. For the first time ever, Brazilian fans will be invited to have their say as to the naming of the official match ball.
We surveyed groups of fans within Brazil to help identify a shortlist of three options, each inspired by elements of Brazilian culture- from music and art to fashion and football, the vote will provide fans with the opportunity to choose their favourite name from the following shortlist:
Brazuca: An informal term used by Brazilians to describe national pride in the Brazilian way of life. As with their approach to football, it is always full of emotion, pride and goodwill to all.
Bossa Nova: A musical style which started in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950´s and soon became the most influential and important artistic and cultural movement in Brazil, redefining the popular music. This rhythm has always translated into how Brazil plays football, with an artistic flow that makes it look easy.
Carnavalesca: The carnival is at the heart of Brazilian culture and always represents a celebration of colour, music and happiness. Like football, this event will always be connected to Brazilian History and a proud national heritage.
The vote begins on Sunday August 12th and represents the first step for us in our journey towards the 2014 FIFA World Cup. After the vote closes on Sunday September 2nd, we will announce the winning ball name in partnership with Brazilian broadcasters Globo.
